Fear and Loathing and Mellowing Out

2hunter-s-thompsonGood news for fans of Gonzo Journalism. Hunter S. Thompson’s widow, Anita, has announced that she is using DNA from his private marijuana and hashish stash to promote a cloned product to his devotees. She claims to have kept his supply since his death in 2005.

Hunter S. Thompson came to prominence with publication in 1967 of Hell’s Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs, after he spent a year living and riding with the motorcycle gang. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream, initially serialized in Rolling Stone magazine, and Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail ’72, profiling Richard Nixon. He later complained about the fame brought on by his success, making him too easily recognized to do reporting.

Thompson was known for his affinity for alcohol, drugs and firearms. Anita expects the cult following her husband developed will be a ready market for the cloned herb and will shell out money to share the same weed that Hunter smoked.
