Freedom of the Press

breitbart-bmw-deutsche-telekom-20161207The First Amendment to our Constitution allows Breitbart News Network to publish whatever dreck they choose. It also works in the other direction. Companies are free to spend their advertising dollars wherever they choose. Some are now paying attention to where third-party agencies place their ads. Kellogg’s, for example, decided it no longer wants its brand associated with the right-wing “news” site.

Breitbart responded in typical fashion, calling Kellogg’s “un-American” and accused them of censorship.

“Kellogg’s decision to blacklist one of the largest conservative media outlets in America is economic censorship of mainstream conservative political discourse, it said in a statement. “That is as un-American as it gets.”

Breitbart has since launched a boycott Kellogg’s campaign and is publishing negative articles about the company.

Companies such as EarthLink, Allstate and others had previously demonstrated their un-Americanism. Now even German corporations – including BMW and Deutsche Telekom, parent of T-Mobile – have joined the ranks of the un-American. In announcing their decision, the communications company said,

“…we have had our advertising removed from [Breitbart] and have block listed them, to ensure that no further Deutsche Telekom ads appear there. Deutsche Telekom stands for values such as tolerance and openness and we do not condone any discriminatory acts or comments.”

Breitbart will be busy organizing more boycotts.
