Portland’s Tilikum Crossing opened about a year ago. The bridge is open to buses, streetcars, light rail, bicycles and pedestrians. No truck or auto traffic. Walkers and bikers travel side by side, each with a designated lane. A guerilla artist apparently decided the symbols were lacking character, and so added some personality.
Those bicyclist icons aka bikons are painted on streets at no small cost to taxpayers apparently for intellectually challenged bicyclists who are unable to tell where they are going. I once sent a letter to the editor of the Oregonian suggesting that in the spirit of fairness, little feet should be painted on sidewalks so pedestrians should know where to walk.
