There may or may not be more homeless people these days. They definitely are more visible, though. The city of Portland may have a solution to homeless encampments. A viaduct for buses and light rail approaching the Tilikum Crossing opened about a year ago. To date not a single tent has been set up underneath the overpass. The photos may explain why.

Some Personality on the Crossing
Portland’s Tilikum Crossing opened about a year ago. The bridge is open to buses, streetcars, light rail, bicycles and pedestrians. No truck or auto traffic. Walkers and bikers travel side by side, each with a designated lane. A guerilla artist apparently decided the symbols were lacking character, and so added some personality.

A Picture Story
Traffic coming towards you becomes one-way. Traffic going away from you is two-way. Traffic entering intersection from your right can go straight or turn left.
When I navigate this intersection, I am in the right lane, as I am usually traveling straight ahead.
The left lane can go straight or turn left.
Turning left with red light onto a one-way street is legal.
It appears one driver wanting to turn has become annoyed waiting behind drivers who won’t turn until the light is green.
Annoyed enough post instructions on the back of a street sign.
