A Victory for Free Enterprise

porn-computer-key_largeThe recent election may help revive a flagging industry. Already suffering from Internet competition, the besieged porn industry had largely fled the Los Angeles area because of burdensome government regulations.

An L.A. county law requiring the use of condoms in pornographic movies resulted in movie producers fleeing California, relocating to Nevada and Arizona. Although a lawsuit resulted in the law no longer being enforced, employment in the business, based mainly in the San Fernando Valley, north of L.A., shrank from more than 10,000 to 2,000 in the four years since the ordinance went into effect.

California voters defeated Proposition 60, which would have made the requirement statewide. Those in the know expect the industry will come back to the Los Angeles area, “Because that’s where the talent is.”
